Taipa’s sports stadium to gain multi‑purpose facility (Não é um dos quatro)

 nov25

Taipa’s Olympic Sports Centre Stadium is on course to be fitted with a new multi‑purpose facility, with a plan to repurpose its car park.

The redevelopment plan was unveiled by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture O Lam on Friday as she exchanged ideas with legislators about her 2026 action plan.

O told the Legislative Assembly session that this new addition would be used mainly for trending or emerging sports.

This plan is part of a drive by Macau authorities to encourage mass participation in sports.

According to the Public Works Bureau, at least three major undertakings are afoot.

The former Canidrome racetrack is currently being transformed into a 40,425‑square‑metre sporting park. This park consists of four sections and an oval track.

This project has so far seen MOP1.37 billion (US$170 million) spent.

Another project, involving two buildings dedicated to athlete training and coaching, is also underway on a 10,388‑square‑metre land parcel.

Its investment has reached MOP372 million.

Meanwhile, an infrastructure project is advancing on the reclaimed Zone A island by the mega bridge linking the territory to Hong Kong and Zhuhai.

This endeavour is paving the way for a multi‑floor building for recreational and sporting purposes, which covers some 1,930 square metres.

By the time this plan is completed, it will house a swimming pool, six badminton courts, two basketball courts, and a table tennis room.

At least MOP264.5 million has been poured into this scheme so far.
